The RDM standard is a protocol enhancement for USITT DMX512 that allows bi-directional communication between RDM-compatible consoles and fixtures over a standard DMX line, enabling configuration, status monitoring and management.
To use RDM, you need an RDM-enabled DMX controller and RDM-compatible fixtures.
If you use DMX spplitters, they must also be RDM-enabled and compatible, which is why Triton-Blue’s Saturn 8R is the solution for these occasions.

About the RDM Function

  • Definition: RDM (Remote Device Management) is an enhancement to the DMX512 lighting protocol developed by USITT. It enables bidirectional communication between lighting consoles and RDM-compatible devices through a standard DMX line.

Key Points:

  • Bidirectional Communication: RDM allows devices to send information back to the lighting console.
  • Configuration and Control: Enables remote configuration and management of lighting devices, simplifying system setup and maintenance.
  • Compatibility Requirement: Both the DMX controller and connected devices must support RDM and comply with its standards.
  • Summary: RDM improves the efficiency and management of lighting systems by enabling bidirectional communication and control over a standard DMX line.
